June 17, 2010

MHA Managed Communicator requires you to type your password into the client each time you open it. There is a quick registry key you can add to allow it to automatically login.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator
REG_DWORD     SavePassword  =1

Once this key has been added you will see there is now a box in the client ”Save Password” that can be checked.

Shrinking a Dynamics CRM 4.0 Database Log File

April 12, 2010

Recently, we had a MS Dynamics CRM 4.0 database that had a bad Duplicate Detection job in it.  The job had been running for months and the database had grown gig’s in size before we found it.  There were 16 million records in the Duplicate Detection table – ouch.  We followed another article to find the offending rule, disable the rule and then clear out the database.

This left a 17gig SQL log file and was basically wasting lots of space on disk and backups.  Hunted round the web and got all sorts of conflicting stories on how to shrink the log file down to a reasonable size.  Long story short, we used this script below – shrunk the 17gig log file down to 1mb…..

SharePoint slow performance with Win7 and I.E 8

April 9, 2010

Some of you may have experienced slow performance using SharePoint, Win 7 and I.E 8. This may only concern those of you that use a Hosted SharePoint provider that publishes it with ISA 2006. Not sure if it will have an effect when using SharePoint on the Lan.

Recently I did the upgrade from XP to Win 7, loaded all my favourite apps…everything was humming until I went to download a document from SharePoint and it took 20 secs with the following box popping up…

I added the SharePoint site to my Trusted Sites…still no luck…was still slower than a slow motion replay of a Suzuki Swift taking a hair pin at high-speed.

I remembered that back in the dark ages I used to turn off  ’Automatically Detect Settings’ under I.E Tools – Connections – Lan…and it speed certain things up…….

So I unchecked and applied my way out of settings, tested opening a document in SharePoint and woohoo, back to the speed it was from my XP days :)
